about

These are the home demo recordings of Eureka, made in between Summer 97 in a garage apartment, and Summer 98 in a suburban duplex.
Being of it's time and given the limited resources available, it's a pretty primitive, lo-fi slice of time.
I still think it rocks pretty hard to this day.

released June 7, 1998

All this music was written and recorded by Mike McBane in Austin Texas with the help of his friends Stuart and Dana.

Mike played the guitars and keyboards and sang.

Stuart played the drums and also sang a bit.

Dana played the bass.

The neighbors were cool with it.

For the technically curious:

Recording and mixing was handled on my Akai MG1212 using a motley crew of borrowed budget compressors and only a handful of dynamic mics. No verbs, no FX, no budget.
Amps included 1974 Orange OR80 or 1979 Marshall 50 watt or 1979 Park 100 watt through an Orange 8x10 cabinet.
Guitars used were 1962 Epiphone Casino, 1964 Fender Mustang (with p90s), recent Rickenbacker 360,
Keyboards included Fender Rhodes and Sequential Prophet 2000 sampler.
Mixed straight to 1/2" Pioneer Reel to Reel.
Converted to digital through what I can only guess was a consumer a/d.
Remastering in 2014 done in Waveburner, just simple level matching and intro and outro fade cleanup.
